WHY BLACKLETTER BOOT CAMP?

Take a moment to look and you'll find calligraphy in all sorts of places - ads, products, your favorite games and media, magazines and books (for those that don't remember, a book was like a bunch iPads stacked on top of each other and glued together on one side)  

Maybe you've been interested to give calligraphy a try, but have no idea where to start. Or, maybe you've tried this fancy writing stuff but find it intimidating, frustrating, and difficult to learn.

Enter Blackletter Boot Camp.

After working with hundreds of students all over the world, I've designed Blackletter Boot Camp to teach you everything you need to write in this super fun and versatile style of calligraphy.

I've developed a simple approach that is super easy to learn, will save you time, frustration, and money and give you a solid foundation to explore your own Blackletter creativity.

This series will be packed full of encouraging instruction, exemplars and detailed handouts, technique tips and tricks, class scans, fun homework, and more...

What will I Learn?

You will learn everything you need to write a fun and versatile Blackletter alphabet (both lowercase and uppercase letters). The tone of the workshop will positive, supportive, helpful, and FUN! Learning calligraphy doesn't have to be super serious or dull, so plan on getting lots of encouragement and having a great time learning together...

INTRO TO BLACKLETTER

An introduction to Blackletter calligraphy and the myriad of ways you can use it for traditional or creative and innovative projects

SUPPLIES DEEP DIVE

Everything you need to know about how to use and maintain all the tools we'll work with in the class. I'll also share tips and tricks, creative customizations, and answer your questions live.

BASIC STROKES & STRUCTURE

A thorough walkthrough of the basic strokes and variations that you can create with a broad nib pen.  

LOWERCASE ALPHABET

A step-by step walkthrough of a complete lowercase (minuscule) alphabet.

UPPERCASE ALPHABET

A breakdown of a complete uppercase (majuscule) Blackletter alphabet.

WORDS & SPACING

Of course, our goal is to be able to write complete words and sentences. We will discuss considerations related to letter and word spacing. 

PRACTICE TIPS & TRICKS

This workshop will provide you with a solid Blackletter calligraphy foundation upon which you can build and continue to grow. I'll share my recommendations, tips, and tricks to make your practice sessions productive and fun.

NEXT STEPS

As we conclude the workshop I'll share a natural progression for continuing to level-up your Blackletter abilities. I cover a natural progression for moving away from guide-sheets and becoming comfortable with minimal guidelines or even (gasp) a black page!

What Supplies do I Need?

You do not need a long, expensive list of supplies for Blackletter Boot Camp. Actually, you can get all of the supplies you need for less than around $25 (in the US).

Frequently Asked Questions

The live workshops will be held over 4 Saturdays in March and April (March 5, 12, 19, and April 2). Each class will be scheduled from 11am - 1:30pm Central time.  The dates are spread out to give you time to learn, practice, and attend as many sessions as you can. After the last live session you will have lifetime access to the recordings.

YES! Each workshop session will be live with me, Tamer, as the instructor.

Each workshop will be recorded and uploaded here on learn.blackletterfoundry.com for you to view after the class.

Because the workshops will be live, you'll have access to me for the full 2+ hour duration of each group class (a total of over 10 hrs!). I've also limited the number of participants to offer as much individual attention as possible during the group sessions.

You will have LIFETIME access to all of the recordings. Each of the live videos will be edited and organized into sections to make it easier for you to find and access specific topics.
